<p>Coelophthinia in California, found throughout the region, contains either one species with minor variations, or two very closely-related species. This figure shows the inner gonostylus of two specimens, which were suspected to represent two different species (from coast and mountains, respectively). Slight differences between these specimens (such as the displacement of a small seta, indicated) are visible only at high magnification, usually only after careful dissection...</p>
